Bogart - Bogie leaves his mark at the “Mark”
After collecting autographs for 25 years one rarely
comes across an EXCEPTIONAL museum quality piece that stands out above
all the rest. I have seen
many “authentic” Bogart autographs over the years, however this is
indeed the most striking, authentic example I have ever seen. Everything
about this piece makes it extraordinary.
The unquestionable Bogart GENUINE handwriting and vintage
fountain pen signature, the personal dated inscription, the medium
(restaurant The Mark Cocktail Lounge. Many people don’t realize it was
Bogart who founded The Rat Pack) which puts a location and date on when
this autograph was acquired. The
aging and vintage remnants of tape maybe one used to display at one time
(many things the online forgers cannot duplicate).
Compared to most of the scribbled, un-inscribed Bogart
signatures, this vintage treasure stands out above all others I have
seen in every way! Vintage ink signature and inscription, “To Lenore - Sincerely, Humphrey Bogart, 1946” on an off-white
2.75 x 3.5 Top Of The Mark Cocktail Lounge card, dated 1946 (the year
The Big Sleep was released). Card is stamped “Private” along the top
right corner. Two small tape remnants, one over portion of date, a few
light creases and some light color remnants, possibly from a stamp,
otherwise fine condition. Because of the value and high demand of Humphrey
Bogart autographs he has become a prime target for the forgers selling
on the internet auction sites. Fortunately Bogart’s distinctive style
makes forgeries easily detectable to the experienced eye. Still, as high
as 95% of Bogart astrographs from online auction sites are fake. So
