Katharine Hepburn's script for Travels with my
Aunt |
Here is Katharine Hepburn's personally owned script for Travels
with my Aunt. Dated in 1972. 103 pages. In pretty good condition.
The role of Aunt Augusta was originally to have been played by Katherine Hepburn,
but she was replaced by Smith shortly before production was to begin. Everyone involved
had a different story as to why the change was made. Hepburn claimed she hadn't the
faintest idea why she'd been replaced but said that when she left, Cukor almost went with
her. "Don't be impractical. You've worked on the film for two years," Hepburn
reportedly told her old friend. For his part Cukor told an interviewer from the New
York Daily News that Hepburn still was his first choice for the role, but he couldn't
allow some of the changes she demanded in the script. According to the director, Hepburn
finally withdrew and the two parted amicably.

donation was given in her name. She writes near the Broadway Cares printing; "K.H.
doesn't either," She than writes; "Good Grief Ernest, Un, What is this- nothing
have been given, K. Hepburn." She obviously doens't understand the card and shows her
confusion on it in her handwriting. The card has been torn in several pieces and poorly
repaired. Still intersting writings by Hepburn. Also, shows a very scarcastic, possibly
playful side of Hepburn. Very unusual and look into the
