ADDITIONAL INFO ON LETTER ORIGINS: "After getting a few questions regarding the origins of this letter we asked my mother in law (Mr. Gerig's daughter) and we found out some more information. Evidently, my wife's grandparents were neighbors of the Indian actress Suraiya (who recently passed away in January 2004) while they lived in India (apparently in adjacent buildings). Alfred Hitchcock came to India to meet with her, and she invited Mr. and Mrs. Gerig to tea with Mr Hitchcock while he was there. Some time a few months later, Mr. Gerig sent a letter to Mr. Hitchcock asking for a tour of Paramount Studios and received this invitation to meet him on the movie set while he was visiting San Francisco. The Gerig's did end up meeting him in San Francisco in March 1958, but we have no other details of the meeting."
An Absolutely Extraordinary item! Written while filming "Vertigo" as he mentions the movie indirectly "making a movie with James Stewart...". $3500 |
